UK Boiler Scrappage Scheme | Does our Boiler Qualify?

Does our Boiler Qualify?

The most important question people have is ‘does my boiler qualify for the £400 boiler scrappage scheme incentive?’. Now that the scheme has been finalised the basic criteria are as follows:

  • You must be a private householder or landlord, owning your own house or tenants and situated in England.
  • Your current boiler must be in working order and have an energy efficiency rating of G or worse if you are under 60.
  • For those people 60 or over, the boiler does not need to be in working order, however it must be the main boiler used to heat your house.
  • Your current boiler is not electric. So gas, oil LPG or similar biofuel is allowed.

Known Exclusions

People to whom the following criteria match cannot apply for the boiler scrappage voucher:

  • People with electric boilers – however bad their rating.
  • Households outside of England – ie, Scotland, Wales or Northern Ireland.
  • Boiler installer or manufacturers.
  • Local authority registered social landlords.
  • Housing associations.

If you are not eligible for the boiler scrappage scheme, then you may want to try the Warm Front scheme which also offers significant money towards home heating improvements.

Full details are available at the Energy Savings Trust, who are responsible for overseeing the scheme and issuing the scrappage scheme vouchers. Should your boiler match all of these criteria, then the next step is to register with the Energy Savings Trust to receive your £400 voucher. This voucher can be redeemed for money once your new boiler has been fitted by a qualified boiler installer.
